A Life in Rhythm
Musical Beginnings
Ben discovered his interest in music at eight years old, starting on piano before moving to percussion in middle school, where he found his primary focus. He studied Music Performance at Miami University under Michael LaMattina and Patrick Schlecker, developing a strong foundation in both orchestral and contemporary percussion.
Performance Career
Ben’s percussion career spans orchestral halls, brass band competitions, and music festival stages. He performs with the Dublin Silver Band, Miami Valley Symphony, and Dayton Philharmonic, and drums for the pop band Blucone. He brings energy and groove to every performance and is open to collaborating on all types of projects.
Education & Mentorship
At Columbus Academy, Ben guides students in grades 6–12 through the world of percussion. His teaching covers everything from fundamentals to audition preparation, fostering both technique and musical expression.
Community & Advocacy
Through We Amplify Voices and Pop Up Speak Up, Ben creates spaces where creativity and community meet. What began as a small open mic event has grown into an annual summer series empowering young artists in Franklinton.

Where Ben Performs
Principal Percussionist
The Dublin Silver Band is a championship-level British brass band based in Dublin, Ohio. As Principal Percussionist, Ben serves a leading role in the ensemble, performing diverse repertoire spanning traditional brass band literature and contemporary works. He is also the Founder and Director of the Dublin Percussion Ensemble, a group established in 2025 that performs alongside the band at select concerts.
Drummer
An independent pop band based in Columbus. Blucone combines tight r&b/funk grooves with soothing female vocals, similar to Billie Eilish, The Marias, and Men I Trust. Ben is a founding member and drummer of the band.
Percussionist
As a percussionist with the MVSO, Ben performs a wide range of orchestral repertoire, as well as popular works, that contribute to the vibrant music scene in the Miami Valley region.
Substitute Percussionist
As a substitute percussionist with the acclaimed Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Ben performs on an as-needed basis. His most notable performance was the Jurassic Park Movie Concert, where the orchestra plays the music to the movie as it screens live.

Ben performs with Yellow Springs Chamber Music, contributing his versatile percussion skills to a variety of chamber settings and collaborative performances.
Columbus Academy
Percussion Instructor · Grades 6–12
As percussion instructor at Columbus Academy, Ben guides students from middle school through high school in developing their percussion skills. His teaching covers snare drum technique, mallet percussion, timpani, drum set, and ensemble playing, fostering both technical proficiency and musical expression.
